Phonics

Here at Stanley school we are passionate about providing our learners with experiences and teaching that develops their love of reading. We utilise a range of multi-sensory approaches to support this ethos; from the use of sensory stories to dramatic performances from both staff and children. Children also have access to massage stories, song and rhyme sessions, stories which are supported by puppets and noisy props. We have a number of classrooms who work on independent reading skills which are encouraged through the use of attractive, comfortable, quiet reading spaces.

Stanley School is a Bug Club school. Bug Club is an online platform that provides our teachers with the inspiration, ideas and resources to design individualised phonics sessions to support reading progression for our learners. Our children also have access to Bug Club books in both print and online meaning that reading can take place in a range of settings and environments. The Bug Club books are phonetically decodable meaning they can be matched to our learner’s phonetic stage. They also cover a range of genres meaning our children’s wide range of preferences and interests are catered for.
